"Forschung hilft" foundation: Another 5,000 euro donation from crime novelist Alexander Meining

Würzburg, 04.12.2025

. Prof. Dr. Alexander Meining, Deputy Director of the Medical Clinic II at Würzburg University Hospital (UKW), is the author of a crime novel series set in Würzburg at the end of the 19th century. He donates the royalties from sales of the series, which now comprises four volumes, to the "Forschung hilft" foundation, which uses the money to support particularly promising cancer research projects at the UKW.

Money for upcoming sponsorship awards

The author took a reading from his new publication "Wild West in Würzburg" on December 2 this year as an opportunity to once again hand over a donation of 5,000 euros to Gabriele Nelkenstock, Chairwoman of the "Forschung hilft" Foundation Board. The physician commented: "Less than two weeks ago, at this year's award ceremony, you could see how many important cancer research projects receive financial support from the foundation at crucial moments. I am delighted to be able to make a contribution here." At the event on November 20, "Forschung hilft" distributed a total of almost 235,000 euros to 21 scientific projects. "Prof. Meining's donation will help us to repeat this in a similar way next year. We need this continuity to make progress in the understanding and treatment of cancer," emphasized Gabriele Nelkenstock, thanking Prof. Meining for his continued support.

Further donations raised at the charity reading

A further 425 euros were raised for the foundation through donations at the charity author reading at the Himmelspforten retreat center in Würzburg. The Diocese of Würzburg, with the support of the Friends of the Retreat House, provided the stylish event location free of charge, and the drinks were also sponsored by various supporters. As the Green Ladies and Gentlemen from the UKW Visiting Service and volunteers from the hospital provided the sales service, all proceeds from the evening, which was free to attend, went to the foundation.

About the book

Würzburg, 1891: Georg Hiebler is on the loose. A visit to Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show is supposed to make his engagement to Agathe perfect. But then a murder takes place. A Sioux warrior disappears and Hiebler's former lover Rosa is also in town. Instead of looking after his bride, he begins to investigate among cowboys and winegrowers. Nothing goes as planned, and instead of convicting the murderer, Hiebler soon has to fear for his own life.

The 192-page book costs 12 euros. It is available as an e-book for 9.99 euros.
