Overcoming borders - for joint progress in cancer research
On October 9 and 10, 2025, the Bavarian Center for Cancer Research (BZKF ) welcomed a delegation from the Austrian Comprehensive Cancer Network (ACCN) to Erlangen.
Our common goal: to identify potential for future collaborations in translational cancer research and strengthen the dialog between Bavaria and Austria.
After an initial get-together in Erlangen's old town, an intensive work program followed at the Translational Research Center (TRC).
The agenda included:
🔹 Strategies for joint EU funding applications
🔹 Synergies in clinical trial infrastructure
🔹 Best practices for funding lines, financial processes and IT infrastructure
Particularly valuable: the breakout sessions, in which concrete ideas for joint research projects have already emerged.
💡 O ur conclusion: the bilateral exchange lays the foundation for pioneering research initiatives across national borders.
The ACCN visit was a complete success and highlighted the great mutual interest in closer collaboration in the field of translational cancer research. The BZKF would like to thank the Austrian colleagues for the open exchange, the exciting insights and the constructive discussions. Both sides are optimistic about possible next steps towards joint research initiatives - particularly in the area of EU funding applications and clinical trial infrastructure.
