Personalized cancer diagnostics
The use of the best possible cancer diagnostics and optimal therapy significantly increases patients' chances of survival. Access to the latest technological, molecular and personalized cancer diagnostics as well as new therapy options is often decisive in the course of the disease.
The Bavarian Center for Cancer Research (BZKF) has set itself the goal of bringing innovative approaches quickly and effectively from the research laboratories into clinical application. In view of the increasing incidence of cancer, all citizens in Bavaria should be offered state-of-the-art targeted cancer diagnostics and therapy with the best possible chances of recovery. A working group in the BZKF network therefore deals exclusively with the topic of so-called molecular diagnostics.
Molecular tumor boards
Tumor boards are conferences of doctors from various specialist areas who discuss the medical findings and possible treatment of cancer patients. An individual therapy concept is developed in the molecular tumor board. This is based on the results of previous molecular diagnostics.
The experts jointly discuss the best treatment options according to the latest medical science and current guidelines. A central goal of the working group of the BZKF working group is to be able to provide uniform and personalized molecular diagnostics at all six university hospitals in Bavaria.
Individual therapy throughout Bavaria
The standardization of procedures in the molecular tumor conferences is intended to ensure that equally targeted, personalized molecular diagnostics and therapy is available for every patient throughout Bavaria. To this end, a cross-site meeting of experts from all BZKF sites takes place once a month, at which current cases are presented and discussed.
