Prof. Dr. Andreas Mackensen
Director of the Bavarian Center for Cancer Research (BZKF)
From science into practice
The BZKF is an association of the six Bavarian university hospitals and universities in Augsburg, Erlangen, Munich, Regensburg and Würzburg.
Cancer research is promoted and knowledge is pooled in the university hospitals and the research and care centers supported by the universities, the Comprehensive Cancer Centers (CCCs). In line with the motto "Strengthening excellence - sharing knowledge", scientists at the BZKF sites conduct interdisciplinary research into the development and treatment of cancer in close cooperation. Clinical studies are conducted and shared across the sites.
The aim is to quickly transfer results into clinical practice and significantly improve the care of cancer patients in Bavaria.
"At the BZKF, the transfer of results from basic research into practice has absolute priority. One focus is on the joint implementation of clinical studies."

Best possible care throughout Bavaria
The distribution of the locations ensures that cancer patients throughout Bavaria have access to cutting-edge oncological medicine and the best possible cancer treatment based on the latest scientific findings close to where they live. The Bavarian Center for Cancer Research (BZKF) provides the Bavarian population with direct access to information on the latest research findings, diagnosis and treatment options and ensures that innovative methods are used across the board in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
"Despite constant progress in medical research, the diagnosis of cancer has lost little of its horror to this day. That is why we are doing everything we can to offer those affected and their families the best possible help with medical structures at the highest level. The Bavarian Center for Cancer Research (BZKF) combines outstanding oncological research with high-performance cutting-edge medicine."
Markus Blume, Bavarian State Minister for Science and the Arts
